Ring Light

Thought I'd make a post regarding my new homemade "Ring Light".

I made the ring light out of PVC and lamp sockets. I made a basic octagon, running the wiring through the pipe to each of the 8 lights you see. It measures 3 ft across and weighs almost nohing. I couldn't wait to try my new ring light out.

My first subject to be photographed is Heather Lutze, she's an Internet Marketing Consultant-my internet marketing consultant. More about that later.

Heather asked me to do a portrait of her and as well as photographing a "marketing concept" that she is currently working on. I thought that would be the perfect time to try the ring light. I like the catch-light in her eyes as well as the jelly beans.

If you are looking for a fantastic Internet Marketing Conustant, I recommend you visit Lutze Consulting at lutzeconsulting.com.

CoBank Executive Portrait

I was hired to photograph the senior management. This particular photo is of the new CEO Bob Engle.

I shot this in their large boardroom in their Denver headquarters. I used a new Octibox for the main light and I used a 40* grid of light amber gelled light on the background. As I look at the photograph, I realize I also included 1 additional light on the subject left. I used a medium softbox with a CTB filter over the strobe head. The CTB add a cast of light blue into the photograph. You can see the results in the chairs and on the left side of the subject.

I'll be headed out there tomorrow morning to complete the rest of the environmental portraits. I'll post the results another time.

Emcor Annual Report

This photograph is from a recent photo shoot for Emcor, Inc. I received this assignment via my agent in New York City.
I have been a contract shooter for Getty Images for more than 15 years. I shoot for Getty about 6 to 8 times a year on various assignments. I am know mostly for my corporate annual report work.

This assignment required that I rent a small studio to complete this shot. The subject in the photo is an engineer at Emcor, his name is Chris, his title is V.P. of CAD engineering. Chris and the table will be striped out of the picture to be placed in a double page spread in Emcor's 2005 annual report.

At this point I should show you the layout I received from the client. There is a special effect they plan to do in post production involving Chris. If you look closely at the comp, you will notice a double or triple ghosting behind the subject. The client also wanted a computer monitor in the shot. He thought the computer could be set on a podium of sorts. He wasn't even certain if it needed to be placed on anything, as it my be stripped out. I suggested to the client to include the table and stool, which does not appear in this particular photo above.

I found the table and chair at my local Toyota dealership, I was there looking at the new hybrid cars. While there, I noticed the furniture and asked if I could barrow them for the shoot. Of course the said yes, as you are seeing them here. I got the monitor at the local Apple Store. It's a 23 inch HD flat screen, the store charged a $130.00 restock fee for the use. When I returned the monitor, I was able to purchase the monitor for myself at a 10% discount. So I have this new monitor!

Kerr-McGee Annual Report

This morning was spent shooting the inside cover spread of the 2005 Kerr-McGee annual report. I was provide a hand drawn layout of the concept for the photo. Kerr-McGee has launched a new logo and wanted to feature employees sporting new hard hats. I have provided the layout here as well as the photo shot to that layout.

And here is the final image for this spread:

UDRT Management Photo

This morning I shot the Board of Director of UDRT. They are a REIT base in Colorado. We photographed at Arrowhead Golf Course in Douglas County.

Early morning light combined with some fill flash. I used a Lumidyne 800 ws pack set at 600 ws. I was backed up against a hillside and was unable to place the strobe on a stand. Erik (my assistant) hand held the strobe just to the cameras right side. I've shoot lots of portraits and location stuff for my clients.
