Mr. Navin C Dimond, CEO Stonebridge Companies

I recently photographed Navin Dimond, CEO of Stonebridge Companies for the Federal Reserve board of Kansas City. This photograph was made with natural light, a bank of windows camera left was the light source. I used a 50mm length lens for a up close and personal look.

Studio Pen Shot

Pen with Russian wood

Pen with Russian wood

I turned on the lathe the other day, starting to produce some pens for my sister. She asked me to make 10 pens for her, these will be gifts to friends for Christmas. The pen shown above is one I made for me, using some Russian wood I bought while visiting Russia a few years ago.

Ireland

I recently spent two weeks in Northern Ireland with my wife. Our first week was spent in the small town of Dunfanaghy, in Donegal County. My wife spent the week horse back riding and I out shooting and exploring. On one of my drives, I came across this small stream near the Bridge of Tears.

Early one morning I headed North on the “Wild Atlantic Way” highway to The Fanad Head Lighthouse. I was greeted with light rain and gentle breezes. With a bit of post processing, I added the light in the lighthouse as it is not functional. In the photo below, I was able to add a bit of glow behind the lighthouse.

Another mornings drive found me at a Oyster farming operation. I brought my drone with me on this trip which allowed me to capture the following image.

Just above the hillside behind the Oyster farm, I found this wonderful tree standing alone in this field.

I had an opportunity to visit Glenveagh National Park one morning. I took a short walk around the a lake in the park and found these nice grasses. I shifted my WB to incandescent to move the color toward the blue side.

My wife had one day off from riding during the week, we took that day off to sight see together. We drove North to see the Giants Causeway. The Giant's Causeway is an area of about 40,000 interlocking basalt columns, the result of an ancient volcanic fissure eruption.

From the causeway, we drove to see the Dark Hedges. The Dark Hedges is an avenue of beech trees along Bregagh Road between Armoy and Stranocum in County Antrim, Northern Ireland.

Enjoying my new Nikon Z6

Polaroid#4-Edit.jpg

I’ve been shooting with the Nikon Z6 for a few months now, I couldn’t be more pleased. It’s my opinion is that the DSLR is now dead, or at least for me. I will not be purchasing another DSLR in the future.

This is a portrait of my best friend Eric Krugl, he flew out from Linz Austria to help me with a local assignment. We took a few moments to test the new camera and came up with this portrait which I just love.

Seeing It From Above

I’ve been flying drones for several years now. I recently pick up my third drone just a few weeks ago, the advancement in the avionics is breathtaking. The drones have gotten smaller, studier and easier to travel with. They produce 20 MP images, capture RAW files and shoot 4K video to boot.

It’s boggling the mind to think you can shoot long exposures from a drone. The image above was a 2.5 second exposure allowing strikes of lights from the traffic below. Here is another image with the same exposure time as above.

Another technique is use with my drones is to create panoramas. Below is a recent image I created in West Virginia, for Antero Resources. Using as many as 5 images, or as few as 2 images pieced together in software produces some really stunning images. For the image below, I used 5 images for the final photograph.

Here is another image created for my client Antero Resources. This is West Virginia again, just a few months later then the above photograph.

What is fun about traveling with a drone, you never know when you might come across a cool location. Such was the case while on assignment earlier this year. I came over a mountain pass to find a bunch of wind turbines on a snowy ridge.
